Do I need hosting to register a domain?
No. You can register a domain name without purchasing hosting. If you’re not ready to launch a website yet, you can register your name now to secure it, and point it to a host later. Of course, if you’d like to host your site with us too, we’re happy to help you bundle both.
How do domain transfers work?
- Unlock your domain at your current registrar.
- Obtain the EPP/authorization code from your current registrar.
- Initiate the transfer through our billing portal and enter the EPP code.
- Approve the transfer request via email (sent to the domain’s admin contact).
- The transfer completes within 5–7 days. Your DNS settings are preserved during the process.
Transfers typically renew the domain for an additional year. If you have questions, contact our team before initiating.
Can Webfire host my DNS?
Yes. When you register or transfer a domain to Webfire, you can use our nameservers and manage your DNS records through the billing portal. If your domain is hosted elsewhere but you’re using Webfire for web hosting, you can point your nameservers to us or just update the relevant DNS records at your current registrar.
Do you offer WHOIS privacy / domain privacy?
WHOIS privacy availability depends on the TLD registry’s policies. Many gTLDs (like .com, .net, .org) support privacy protection. Some ccTLDs (like .ca) have their own privacy rules governed by the registry. Check the domain registration page in our portal for availability on the specific extension you’re registering.
How long does domain registration take?
Most domain registrations complete instantly or within a few minutes. Some TLDs (particularly certain ccTLDs) may require manual processing by the registry and can take up to 24 hours. You’ll receive a confirmation email once your domain is active.
Can I change my nameservers anytime?
Yes. You can update your nameservers at any time through the billing portal. DNS propagation after a nameserver change typically takes between 15 minutes and 48 hours depending on TTL settings and resolver caches, but most visitors will see the change within a few hours.
